Major Changes to Come in Quebec City

Quebec City has grown a lot for the last few years and, believe me, it won’t stop any time soon. Numerous projects are coming to the city, in order to respond to the needs its vast array of citizens. Here are some of them :

Most of you probably take the bus quite often; to go to school, to work or others. Nowadays, we could hardly see ourselves living with no public transportation, and for several reasons. People in town may not have a car, either because they can’t afford it, or maybe the parking is too expensive, if there is any available to begin with. Buses are an easy and affordable way for people to get around the city, regardless of the time of day. While the grid of transport isn’t quite perfect, they do help the city reduce the amount of traffic, allowing for people to go about their daily lives without having to take the car everywhere they go.

A few months earlier, the mayor announced his massive construction project of 23 kilometers long tramway, going from all the way from le Gendre (near the new Ikea) to Charlesbourg. The project was presented as a way of improving the traffic in the city, not to mention it is an eco-friendly source of transportation because of its use of electricity as fuel rather than gas. First introduced in 2015, it was originally rejected, and it took three years for it to finally get accepted. Obviously, this is a major undertaking, and it is going to change the way we live our everyday lives, not to mention the scenery of our streets, and the city in general. At the moment, the project manager has announced that he has no plans to cover up more than 1.7 kilometer of our roads, because he foresees that part of the route will take place underground, but this not official as it is subject to change in the future. The capacity of passengers by vehicle is quoted at 260, and the frequency of tramways passing is currently at one every three to five minutes during rush hour, and one every ten to fifteen minutes during regular hours and weekends. Their route is set to begin as early as 5AM and to finish by 1AM. In addition, the tramway plans to offer services that connect outside areas like Limoilou, Lebourneuf and others, not to mention a trambus service. These constructions won’t start before 2022, but are supposed to be ready for the autumn of 2026.

On another note, Quebec City is also welcoming a new array of businesses. You probably noticed the rearrangement of the Simons at les Galeries de la Capitale a few months earlier this year. This shopping mall is now introducing a big alimentary market that’s being built in the same location where the Simons used to be, and these renovations are evaluated to cost sixteen million dollars. Opening up the space for approximately thirty business locales, this project is also including a Ricardo boutique and cafe opening in a few weeks. This project was initiated by the Oxford Group to offer a variety of different business such as coffee shops, cocktail bars, bakeries, breweries, and many others. A few of these locales are going to change on a seasonal basis, for products and companies that fit this system of doing business. The point of the project is to have traders that have exotic and fresh quality products to offer to Quebecers. However the majority of these changes are not set to take place before autumn of 2019.

Nevertheless, there’s much more that is set to come to the city. These projects show the quick expansion of Quebec City, and its ever growing social environment. Stay tuned for more; future projects and other changes to come!
