You might have heard of it if you're an artist, you might have done it already, you might have no idea what I'm talking about, the ultimate yearly drawing challenge, Inktober. Let's dig into it.
Inktober was created by illustrator Jake Parker back in 2009 as a way to help artists around the world improve their skills and share their work to everyone. It has grown so much since then that it has become a global phenomenon where thousands of artists take on the challenge every year.
What does the challenge consist of? It's pretty simple. First, make a drawing in ink, it isn't an obligation, you can draw with a pencil or digitally too but, you know, it's not called INKtober for nothing. Second, post it online on any social media (i.e. Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Artstation), it's the easiest way to share your work! Third, hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2018 (for this year), it is used to centralize every drawing in one place. Last but not least, repeat every day of October!
You may ask yourself, who could even make a different drawing every day of October? The answer is super simple: everyone! Anybody can participate, you definitely do not need to be a professional artist to do Inktober. The goals are only to challenge yourself to make something every day, to help improve your drawing skills and maybe get known by other participants who look at other people's entries! Some people get really creative with the challenge, they can, for example, make up a story that describes their drawings and make it evolve throughout the month or draw one character every day on a giant piece of paper to make one big drawing at the end of the month. In other words, sky is the limit. This will be the third year I participate to the challenge and I can't wait to do it again.
The Inktober team even provides the participants a prompt list to either get yourself inspired or challenge yourself even more! Here's this year's list:
