Arvi's food Review!

by Miro Bussiere Pinsonneault

So Last Monday, Justin Renaud-Giroux and i walked on a rainy day to eat at the Arvi. The arvi is a high quality restaurant owned by my stepdad on the 3ème avenue. It is an original concept since the cooks are waiter as well. It may look pretty rushy but those guy's can do both jobs without any problems, and they will do it even if it means leaving the restaurant at 2 am. It's been open since a few month now, and i was curious about it.

Menu

There were 5 different services on the menu, which means we would eat 5 different type of meal that night.
If you look at the menu, you won't really be able to picture yourself the food so i will add a picture for each service but here's the menu just so you can see and have a little idea of what I am going to talk about.

Beverages

For the beverage we have been offered water, of course, and a Chaga Cola. The Chaga Cola taste like Coca Cola and it's pretty much the same except that Chaga Cola is obviously made of higher quality by the look of the bottle and it doesn't taste chemical at all.

First Service; Pétoncle, rhubarbe, Concombre

We started very lightly with this plate, as you can see, the main food are scallops, cucumbers and rhubarb. It tasted really fresh in the mouth, and really you had to mash up everything the feel at 100% the taste of the ocean. Nothing much to say on that, it was very good and all but it was very light and it was the goal because we wanted more!

Second service; Flétan de l'atlantique, chou-rave, tétragone.

The thing were really getting started with that service. The Flétan de l'atlantique was really good with the sauce. The sauce was made out of wine and it surprised me how well it was with the fish. Even though it was very good on it's overall, it wasn't perfect. I felt like the little thing on the fish, which look like pop-corn and felt in the mouth like pop-corn wasn't going really good with the rest of the dish. I would rather have eaten my fish without it.

Third service; Poireaux, coriandre, jaune d'oeuf.

So that one was the worst for me, it sounds like it was really bad but it's not like that, let me explain. The main food was the leeks and the head, as you can see on the picture, was fried but the rest of it wasn't and Justin and i both agreed to say that it was weird. But the real problem was with the sauce. We both ended up mixing them up, and it was mustard and a sort of avocado sauce and it didn't really taste that great. Overall that dish was so-so.

Fourth service; Boeuf, estragon, crêpe de paille.

After the third service we kind of were waiting for better, and that's is exactly what we got. Even though it's difficult to do a bad steak, it still really was perfect, the baking was perfect, the sauce was perfect, everything was gold, bravo to the chef big five stars.

Final service; Bleuets, avoine, cacao

The final service was a little desert. Very light, the only little problem is that you couldn't eat the cocoa disc alone because of its bitterness. Honorable mention to the berries, very good and tasty.

Conclusions

Overall it was very good if something was less good at first the next dish was gonna be better. Very good balancing between every services, when we got out of the restaurant we weren't hungry anymore, but we weren't uncomfortable with all the things we ate. We felt satisfied and slept well on all that good fun. It's with great pleasure and honor I would go back to that place.
