The season 2 of the controversial show, Thirteen reasons why, arrived
to our screen this week. The season 1 has been watched by a lot of teenagers.
The mature content in it scared a lot of parents.
That’s why in season 2 it was asked to give a small speech at the beginning
of new episodes for the people that might be more affected by the show, it
suggest that they ask for help and talk of their problems with a trusted person.
Now, I didn’t watched all of season 2 but as I started watching
it, it felt weird, I have the impression that they tried to make money on the
back of a really well known and well-reviewed show. However, the first two
episode that I watched for now are both really enjoyable. We have the chance to
see a different perspective where the 13 persons in the tapes tried to help
Hannah by giving statement in court to make the school pay for the lac of attention they gave to the girl. We can see what happen after the suicide of the girl,
how it still have an impact long before the girl die.
But, as Rotten
Tomatoes is saying, "By deviating from its source material, 13 Reasons Why can better
explore its tenderly crafted characters; unfortunately, in the process, it
loses track of what made the show so gripping in the first place." There
is less intrigue and he show is not as dark as it used to be.
After the National Association of school psychologist research
showed that "exposure to
another person's suicide, or to graphic or sensationalized accounts of death,
can be one of the many risk factors that youth struggling with mental health
conditions cite as a reason they contemplate or attempt suicide."
The director might have tried to make it less dramatic to give the possibilities
to everyone to enjoy the show.
In conclusion, Even if the season 1
probably is better than the season 2, Thirteen reasons why is a show that I
enjoy watching and that I suggest to people as long as they are being careful and
understand that’s the show is fictional even if it talks about real issues.
