North America Free Trade Agreement

North America Free Trade Agreement

By Vincent Marion

Canada has a very strong economy partnership since his creation with the England and then, with the United States after the abandonment of the protectionism. Now, there is a threat because Trump wants to change our “rules” that would drastically change the agreements of the ALENA. But, why do we need to keep it that way? We need our ALENA because his objectives are interesting, the exportation always increase and the consequences of the end of it would be devastating.

First, ALENA concept is interesting because the goal of it leads to fair trade.  I think we can all agree that abolition of customs tariffs, the increase of the profit and the protection of environment and work conditions are what make a country like Canada winner because it is what makes the economy flourishing.

Second, we couldn’t give ALENA up. It would be economically difficult because the exportation had always been better since Mexico, the United States and the Canada joined their forces. For example, since 1993, the exportation of United States toward Mexico increases of 455% and in return, it’s 637% for Mexico.

Third, the consequences of the end of ALENA should be bad because it would affect the jobs and the value of the money. When I talk about the job, I don’t mean the hundred thousand jobs in production lose in United States for the profit of Mexico. I mean that Alena create millions of jobs. Although those countries has a significant deficit, stopping ALENA would mean that Canadian dollar will reduce to 0, 70$ US.

Finally, the ALENA is good for our economy and we shouldn’t return in protectionism politic. I highly recommend you to inform other people you know about that issue.
