Moving on

In secondary five, especially around this time of the year, feelings start to take hold of students who suddenly remember good times passed at school over the last few years. Those feelings too often turn to nostalgia, sadness and overly sentimental regrets about moving forward in life, yet it doesn’t help anyone to do so.

Indeed, by being stuck in a permanent sobbing state, people tend to miss the moments they still have with those friends they cherished for so long because they’re too busy thinking about the future without them. If they really wanted to have some good time and make the most of what remains, they would momentarily stop worrying so much about what fate has in store for them and enjoy the time they have with the special people who enlightened their secondary school years,

Also, a bit of serenity and trust in the future would be tremendously helpful for them in their next endeavours. With still their entire life ahead of them, some students manage to find a way to whine about how the good years are over and how there’s no going back. How about living in the present and making plans for the future instead of dwelling in an idealized version of the past? There is much more to do in life than to cry over past joys, especially when you’re not even an adult.

So, to all of those still lamenting that their five years at Saint-Charles-Garnier are over, don’t make a big deal out of it! You’ve still got a few weeks to fully enjoy with your friends and you have an immensely bright future ahead of you! What a shame it would be to spoil it all because of some poorly contained nostalgia…
