Cobra Kai Review by Michel Wu
When I knew that The Karate Kid was going to have a tv show, I had a bad feeling about this because of the 2010 movie. But seriously the 2010 version wasn't very good. And I finally decided to watch the show and I was completely wrong. The show is amazing.
It takes place 34 years after the original one. We don’t follow Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) this time, this is more the story of his rival, Johnny Lawrence (William Zakba). The tournament back then had a lot of influence of their actual life and we all know who won and who lost. Johnny is a person with alcoholic problems and Daniel is a successful businessman that opened the Larusso Auto Group. One day, when Johnny was eating a pizza, he saw a group of buly intimidating another ‘’loser’’ teen. He had to act, so he kicked their asses. Because of that event, the teen named Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) wants to learn karate. Johnny re-open the Cobra Kai dojo and the end of this series is completely mind-blowing.
Like I said, I had some low expectation on that show, but it surprises me on how good it was. It is brilliant, energetic, nostalgic and of course funny. I really like the touch of 2018. Like sensei Lawrence doing some jokes that wouldn’t pass in 2018 and this is what I liked. I like the respect in this show, the respect to everyone, to every sexes. The characters are very interesting, the soundtrack is really good, the acting is good, etc. In conclusion, Cobra Kai is fun, nostalgic and brilliant.
