Should we allow outlaw fake news?

It is what the France is about to that find out after President Emmanuel Macron ordered a law to quash false information disseminated around electoral campaigns. In a world where a falsehood can reach billions instantaneously and political manipulation is increasingly sophisticated,         M. Macron argues that there is something that must be done. Let me explain you why am I agree with him. But first, let define the word “fake news”.

A fake news is a news, a stories or a hoaxes created to deliberately misinform or deceive readers. Usually, these stories are created to either influence people’s views, push a political agenda or cause confusion and can often be a profitable business for online publishers. They often can deceive people by looking like trusted websites or using similar names and web addresses to reputable news organisations.

Reporters from all around the worlds are worry. The author of fake news (I dare call them “journalists” because their ethical standards are doubtful) are responsible of misinformations.

Many medias are working hard to uncover wrongdoing and verify informations. It is not everyone that have the knowledge needing to have a critical thinking on those fake news. It is really easy for the majority of the population that are reading fast to fall into the trap.

For lucratif motivation, undermining journalists are creating imaginary informations that polluted the public lifes and political actions. The fake news perturbed campaigns because they are making growing distrust again the government, the scientists and even institutions generally. The elections of Donald Trump is a perfect exemple. The false news make it impossible to vote in an informed manner. There is nothing to laugh to. How can we give our opinion on a subject that we don’t know or on which we have having falses informations?

People like false informations because their reinforces theirs beliefs. There is only by working all together that we will be able to fight against the sophisticated manipulators of facts and reduce the number of fake news. One thing is clear: the debate just begin.
