Review of District 31
District 31's second season, a TV show written by Luc Dionne and produced by Aetios Productions, will soon (unfortunately) come to its end. Nowadays, Montréal's SPGM (Service de Police du Grand Montréal) is divided into districts. The viewer follows the 31st in its daily routine: solving murders, arresting criminals of all sorts, uncovering mysteries and dealing with a troubled past. Hovewer, when they try to bring light to the wickedness of acts under their jurisdiction, darkness too often strikes them.
The Detectives Sergeants Bruno Gagné, Isabelle Roy, Stéphane Pouliot, Patrick Bissonette, as well as their Lieutenant and Commander Geoffroy Morin and Daniel Chiasson, believe they have seen it all... until another episode destabilizes them with surpising malice and viciousness.

In the series, the language is (as our essays) skillfully crafted. Since the language is based on daily life, there's not an enormous amount of work to do, but Luc Dionne does it simple and smart. Each word precisely matches the character's personnality. Also, on top of the cake, the author includes puns at the right places at the right moments, which undoubdetly makes any viewer chuckle sometimes. This way, Dionne maintains a balance with the fun and the sorrowful parts of his texts.
I have stated that the words match the characters. Of course, the actors play an important part in this process. I do not feel the actor, but the well-defined character when I look at my screen. Sure, I am also overwhelmed by the actors' talent and ability to transform their text through various emotions. They are just amazing. They owe a big part of the honors the series receives so far.
Yet, sometimes, the series lacks realism. For example, a 15-year old girl was arrested publicly, which is impossible according to the actual Law Code here in Québec. Also, the numerous contacts between the police forces and lawyers that ensures criminals stay in jail is not realistic either. Those are tiny details, but still the series could pay attention to the actual Law Code a bit closely.
Apart from that, District 31 is a formidable TV show due to its talented actors and well-built story. I hope that the series will win in popularity. Will you give it a try?
