POLICE BRUTALITY IN THE USA: THE BLACK COMMUNITY IS BEING TARGETED

by Sandrine Babineau et Claire Pleau

If you’ve followed the news in the past few years, you’ve probably heard on the police brutality against de black community, especially in the United States. Just last year, 987 people have been killed by the police in this country. Among these people, 22% were black people (mostly men) who represent only 6% of the population in the United State. This police brutality problem doesn’t seem to have an end.

The problem happening right now in the United States is that the police is killing a lot of black men without valid reasons. A lot of the time, innocent citizens are killed. It happened one month ago to Stephen Clark, a young black american boy who was only 22 years old. The police was chasing him when he went in his backyard. He was holding his cellphone in his end and the police thought he was armed so they shot him 20 times.Unfortunately, this is not the only case; similar ones have been happening for many years. A lot of black young men have died under the shot fired by the police. Just like Stephen Clark, Eric Harris, a 44 years old black american, was killed by the police who justified his death by saying there had been a confusion. Apparently, the police officer wanted to use his Taser gun but instead his took out his gun and shot the victim who later died.

Police brutality towards black people in the United States is a big problem that’s only getting bigger and bigger, years after years. We have to use our voice to fight for those who’ve had theirs closed. This problem cannot continue to persist or even more innocent people will have their life taken.
