More Than a City

More Than a City

The reason why New York is so popular

Because of its numerous scandals and its unique lifestyle growing in popularity, the United States
are now one of the most visited countries in the whole world. Certain cities, like New York, seem to
be on everybody’s bucket list, but why is that? What, out of the thousands of cities in the United
States, makes New York stand out so much?

Even in the early 1800s, New York was already one of the most important cities in the United States.
Indeed, the city has always been popular because its direct link with the ocean made it one of the
main locations for shipping. Since its ports are easier to access, the Big Apple, more specifically the
Hudson River, became a major waterway for trade and commerce.

New York has another advantage when it comes to geography: it’s in the middle of America. This fact
gave the city the push it needed to beat its competitor, Boston. It is also the reason why it was seen
as a better location for a financial center; what a better to reach out to the world than to be in the
center of it?

When it comes to attractions, New York has a lot to offer. The city is well-known for, among other
reasons, its numerous museums. From the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Troll Museum, the city
has unique exhibitions that please everybody’s tastes!

The city is also home to various monuments and buildings that are known worldwide. For example,
who doesn’t think of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building when somebody mentions
New York? Other places, like Central Park, Times Square and Broadway are also spots that are
beloved by tourists.

“Each man reads his own meaning into New York”, confided Meyer Berger, journalist. For more than
a hundred years, New York is one of the cities that people most aspire to go. Also, most people who
already went to the city hope to have to chance to visit it again and, in the meanwhile, praise its
charms.
