Last week, my sister showed me an article on the Web about the different impacts of high heels on women. I then remembered then that the humans are the only living beings that need footwear in their everyday life, meaning that we are kind dependent on it. But are heels really a practical footwear? The discussion that we had showed us how the matter is vast and can be surprisingly debatable.
With prom coming up in June, secondary five girls are starting to anxiously think about buying high heels, learning to walk in them and hoping they aren't too much uncomfortable in them, along with wishing to not fall at some point during the evening. And all this stress is only for one night, while many women are wearing heels every single day. Today, there are many women who are wearing high heels in their everyday work life. The most common is a long and thin heel called stilettos which practically means dagger. We can clearly see the heels expansion on females and the growth in inches during the last century. A study shows that women with a bit higher salary are more tended to be wearing heels as everyday shoes, as women with a smaller income never wear them at work.
Yet heels have shown themselves to be extremely uncomfortable to the foot, by offering a great diversity of swellings, blisters, bleeding toes and even damaging some nerves. And just like that, high heels are still being massively sold and worn. Designers, like Christian Louboutin, have confirmed that those shoes not only have a purpose for the women outfit or confidence, but also for the male gaze, for appreciation to the eye. So some think, why heels wouldn’t be made to slow down the female from the male sexe? Uncomfortable to walk in them, harder to follow the men while walking and can be a distraction.
However, girls don’t feel down. Companies have been working on comfortable and chic high heels of quality, that can be as comfortable as a pair of sneakers. In behalf of that, let’s face it, high heels makes women feel kind of cool and classy. Women want to feel good in their footwear, as the quote goes : «Give the girl a good pair of shoes and she will conquer the world».
