The New Financial Education Class

by Yamina Djamai and Alice Sauvageau

The students of secondary 5 of every part of Quebec are the first ones to attend a financial education class since a very long time. In fact, The class has just been restored for the 2017-2018 school year.

photo education financiere anglais blog.jpgMaybe the government noticed  that it was more difficult for teenagers to deal with financial stuff than older people. Also, it is because adults live on credit and that’s bad so they decided to put the class back on the program. However, the government did not plan their new class very well because every teacher of financial education only has three chapters of the 300-page activity book to teach their class. This makes a lot of them quite angry, and shows us that maybe the government should have thought about their new idea a little bit more before implementing it.

At Collège Saint-Charles-Garnier, the class is taught by Mr. Beaudet and Mr. Gabillet. For them, the program of financial education aims to help the students develop a critical sense to their personal finances and to help them develop the confidence and the knowledge for their financial wellness.

The students at the College are going to see those points:
  • economical organisation of the society
  • organisation of the production
  • human resources
  • consumption
  • financial institutions and money
  • public finances
  • international economy

At Collège Saint-Charles-Garnier, students love the new class. Since that class is really going to help them in life and because it is so different than any other classes, secondary 5 students pay more attention and are more interested.
