Juvenile Soccer Team’s Performance

by Philippe Gélinas and Hypatia

The men's juvenile soccer team took to the pitch at Champigny twice on Sunday September 17th. They played hard and most of the players gave their maximum but sadly they still managed to lose one game.

Their first game was against Quebec High School (QHS). The team took a while to wake up and get into the soccer spirit, thus conceding an early goal to the opposing team. However, seconds later Francis scored a nice goal straight into the top corner of the goal to even up the score. The rest of the first half was mostly played in Saint-Charles zone and they had trouble getting the ball out. This did not change in the second half as QHS finally capitalized on their chances and scored 2 goals in the opening moments of the half. The rest of the match was pretty uneventful as Saint-Charles could not structure an attack and QHS could not find the back of the net. In the last minute of the game Mounir scored a fantastic goal on a free kick, completely stunning the opposing team’s goaltender.

The boys and girl were to face Père-Maristes in their second matchup of the day. Right off the bat, Édouard managed to score a beautiful goal lobbing the ball over the opposing team’s goalie who was way too far out of his net. As during the first game the team struggled to structure an attack and keep possession of the ball. Luckily, the defence was excellent mainly due to a great performance by Nicolas Boulanger and the team went to halftime leading the game. The second half was a big stalemate but Saint-Charles did manage to add another goal to their tally. In the final five minutes of the game Père-Maristes did manage to score because one of their players had struck the ball out of bounds but the referee did not see it and the opposing team player managed to bring it back in and score as our defence was not on guard. Saint-Charles managed to play out the remaining time without conceding and earned a vital three points.
