The New Study Period

by Sandrine Babineau and Claire Pleau

Since the beginning of the new school year at College Saint-Charles-Garnier, some rules and aspects of our schedules have changed. We now have access to a study period. That period placed after lunch time allows students to do their homework or to study on a daily basis.

It would maybe increase grades of many students, like some of them who usually don’t complete their assignments because that’s the only task they have to do during this class. However, if they don’t want to respect these rules, the period is unhelpful and a waste of time for them.

Moreover, according to some people, this period extends their day because instead of four periods, we now have five periods and less time for eating at lunch.

Furthermore, last year, the time between the beginning of lunch and the last class of the day was approximately 92 minutes, it’s a difference of 22 minutes from now. It’s not a big adjustment,  but for certain, twenty minutes less doesn’t leave them enough time to do something outside the school. Also, the study period is one more class for teachers to attend; they have to supervise the students.

Finally, for most people who have a busy life, like practicing sports, having a job or any kind of activities, this time allows the undergraduate to have extra time for themselves on the week-end and more liberty.
