With the beginning of this 2017-2018 school year, a lot of novelty came. The biggest thing is, without any doubt, the profiles. Soccer, basketball, dance, tennis, golf, performing arts, music and science are all the new profiles for Saint-Charles-Garnier’s students. To know more about that, we decided to interview some of the teachers affiliated to a profile. We asked them four questions:
- Are you excited by the new profiles ?
Yes, we were waiting for this. It was a project we wanted to do, to add hours of sports, arts or science, do something different.
- How do you think the students like it ?
It’s just some adjustments. If we can do what we like during classes instead of after school only one hour per week. Even if it's more serious than past years, students seem to like it. They choose what they like to do, we have options for every taste !
- Do you think it’s going to be a success for the next years?
Absolutely! The profiles are already really liked by the students and very popular even if it’s their first year. We’ll surely find some elements to improve, by listening to the students, to make these moments still more interesting and pleasant. Moreover, the profiles enable to form great athletes, artists, musicians, scientists who also have the excellent general education of the College.
- Do you think that the profiles are going to reach more students?
We’ve already seen a big increase in the number of this year’s secondary ones compared to last year’s, so it can just continue for next year. Even if we were offering a lot of extracurricular activities already, it’s more interesting for students to do their passion during class time, like it is with the profiles. Additionally, the profiles are different from the sport-art-study programs because they still leave place to an excellent general formation.
Finally, the best publicity is clearly word-of-mouth and this is going to occur only when Saint-Charles-Garnier’s students will tell their family or friends that they like the profiles.
We’d like to thank Véronique Moisan and Simon Leblond from the sports department, Jean-Sébastien Verreault from the sciences’ and Gabriel Belanger from the arts’ for their interesting answers.
