Smaller Cohort in Secondary 2

by Nicolas drolet

During this year happened what we shall call a “big change”. The number of classes in Secondary 2 has gone low. At the beginning, I thought it was abnormal, so I decided to see clearer about that. I interviewed the Principal, Mr. Marc-André Séguin, on the subject.

According to you, why did the number of classes go so low?

Marc-André Séguin “Since 2010, some administratives regions in the province of Québec like Québec City, have been affected by the decline of birthrate. Most of private and public schools in this region had less students. This school is not an exception. Urban development is a factor that affected a lot of institutions. A lot of young families live far away from Québec City. The geographic factor is an important criterion for choosing a school, it has a big impact for us.”

How do you think it will evolve in the future?

Marc-André Séguin “Future will be bright. An important rise of young people who are old enough to go to school is predicted from 2018 to 2022.”

We all hope he is right about this. We can only hope for the best.
